If you burn an avi. file to a CD, is there a standalone DVD player out there that will play this??

But there are more than a hand full that will play VCD's.
Which means just encode your AVI as a VCD or SVCD compliant MPG, burn to disk and play it that way. -
YES
My Apex 500 will play .AVI files on a standard data CD. I believe most Apex models will do this, careful on the 500 as there 2 different ones.
