  2. Sanyo CRD-DV1 is rumored to come out in Japan in a couple of months. Got the link info from philip at dv-info.net who referred to:
    http://www.dvdwriters.co.uk/ They say:

    -- IDE based.

-- The drive records on DVD-R disks at 4x CLV !

    -- DVD Read Speed: 16x

    -- CD-R Write: 24x ZCLV

    -- CD-RW Write: 12x CLV

    -- CD-ROM Read: 40x CAV

    Safe-BP

An implementation of burnproof for DVD-Rs.

    FlexSS-BP Technology

A quality control system that automatically adjusts the speed of the disk whilst burning.

    Shock-BP technology

    DD-CD Double Density System

An system similar to Sony's (CRX200E-RP) drive. It allows you to record 1.3GB onto CD-R disks but only readable by itself.

As for the media, well only 1 manufacturer has made disks that can cope with 4x recording and that is Mitsui.

The drive is expected to be released in Japan in around 1-2 months time.

  3. tnx m8 for that but it gets me wondering at what kind of speeds can be used for a clean ,safe burn.take ps2 games you cant go over x8 and be safe,so a x40 writer,,well serves no purpose when burning.i'll hang on and see what rediculous price they set for the sony dvd-r's launch.
    tnx again.

  4. The Sanyo drive has gotten me quite interested...although, I do wonder how much it would cost...I don't think I'm willing to shell out more than 400 clams for that baby. Also, it's "months" away from being released.
