After 7 months, I was playing Pearl Harbor in my player when it froze.
Can't get it to eject disc, and I get the "dreaded" HOC 03 error.
Trying the method of "initializing" to default does not work. It just goes back to attempting to read the disc and freezes.
I can find nothing on the net to help me with this, besides two posts on Amazon that mention that they can't find a solution as well, and are giving up on the player because the cost of labor repair is higher than the machine.
I could really use some direction on this one.

DID U TRY THIS
Here is what i found on a DVD Modchip site:
---------------
To check firmware version:
- make sure there no disc in player
- press and hold on the players front: PAUSE + EJECT
- press on the Remote Control number 7
- read firmware off display; eg: H088 50C697.
------------------------------------
So, according to my list we have:
[PAUSE]+ [EJECT] (on player) + [Number/Button] (On remote):
[1] - Test Mode 1?
[2] - Test Mode 2?
[3] - Open/Close Tray Repeatadly
[4] - Open Tray
[5] - Unknown?
[6] - Region Code Information
[7] - Firmware Information
[8] - Unknown?
[9] - LCD Test
[Return] - Press cancel about 10 times and the display will change the numbers on the display - Unknown codes?
[|<<] (Skip ~ on player) - Initialise (ie Reset all settings)
AND:
Best of luck
