imesh is the WAY TO GO. do a search for it on download.com.
all the others suck as they'll cut you of just when you're about to reach the end of the file :P -
Lex: Try Sharing your files, then maybe they wn't cut you off. I use Grokster all the time and have never had any problems.
You could try www.sharereactor.com, that seems quite popular and they got everything even the brand new stuff. It's a bit awkward to set-up but if you bare with it it's not to bad and like I say you can get just abaout everything. I found that Bearshare and Limewire and it's associates make can make your system go wrong because when you download the programs you also download an affiliate .dll called NEWDOTNET.dll
If you try and remove the program then big problems start happening. Look up NewDotNet on the web and read about it and you'll see what I mean.
Cheers Ears
Jimmy

you also get that newdotnet with kazaa. i have had some of the encounters that you are talking about. besides, on kazaa, it seems the running joke is to rename files so you are not getting what you think you are. wich can be sort of irritating at times..lol
-
I want to thank everybody for their respective replies ...
Nothing personal but I hated Limewire and WinMX
Morpheus is the same a Kazaa
I'd like to know how to get to TMD IRC's site
the best part of the above mentioned is I've never gotten cut-off I always share my files (But I too am tired of the misnamed files)
thanks again
Tony -
I have tried them all and the best is Grokster and also the best for quality downloads
-
I won't reply to any personal emails on this subject but the only answer here is Usenet
figure it out however you must but it's the only way
IRC is nothing but one giant headache dealing with those servers and getting in a queue
Kazza, Grokster, Morpehus and every other P2P is a joke - you never finish big files - even just installing that software invites spyware onto your system - plus there are so many fake files out there.
http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/internet/05/07/kazaa.software.idg/index.html
the only solution is one of the oldest protocols on the net - Usenet -- the learning curve is steep - you have to work RAR's, PAR's and probably have to pay for good news servers but the investment is worth it.
....sorry to be a hard ass but I won't answer emails asking me to show you step by step how to get on Usenet --- use a serach engine and figure it out the way I did (by doing research)your pal,

I disagree I have downloaded numerous 700mb+ files and have yet to have any problem. Spyware-there is sneasy way around it so the program still works
-
you can disagree
but I would guess by disagreeing you haven't been on Usenet
because there is no comparison -- P2P is a snack - Usenet is a 7 course mealyour pal,

I would have to agree usenet/newgroups etc are the best p2p programs are way to slow and unreliable. The news server i use has a 50 day retention in the binaries! and it is really fast i usually get 300-400kbsec downloads. Newgroups are the way to go.
-
Phew! 50 day retention? My ISP has around a 3 retention. Who are you with and how much does it cost?
-
STINKY and NONIL,
these usenet/newsgroups are they like irc with commands or more like p2p click and d/
also someone just told me about dc anyone else try that!
Itried but i must b doing something wrong with it I searched for spiderman and got lik 9 hits but the guysin the chat room were trying to help and said i must b ding something wrong
Thanks in advance
VCD4MEWe were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
How do you set up edonkey correctly, i have downloaded it but not sure what is best way to set up.
-
I didn't see anyone mention this one, so I will...
Anyone try "Direct Connect"?
It's basically a multi-hub sharing network that's liek a bastard child of Grokster/Gnutella and FTP and IRC. (that was some evening in the motel!)
I didn't like it or use it for the longest time, but I've started to warm up to it.
Basically you share HUGE amounts of data on your hard drive (I'd recommend whatever you have, even including 20-30 GB worth), and the more you have shared the more hubs will be open to you.
It's another one that's quirky, tough to set up, but after the "learning curve", you'll be able to find files and download them a LOT faster than IRC or any crap like that (multiple users = multiple choices).
I can say that downloading files with this, even "resuming" files, seems pretty accurate in Direct Connect, so you can select the same file from 20 people, and wait to see who's the quickest to have a slot open, continue the file accurately from one to the next. You can even juggle connections on the same file at the same time - so you'll always be getting the person with the fastest connection at any given time.
I HATED this program as much as IRC when I first looked at it, now I can't live without it. For .mp3's etc. still use Grokster (not Kazaa or Morpheus), but for anything large or hard to find, try this one... -
Here is a good site to help you guys get started.
It has good info on all p2p's(yuk), irc and newsgroups.
http://www.slyck.com/ -
Nothing beats the four private topsites I have access to. They have all the divx, SVCD's, VCD's, app ISO's, game ISO's, DVD-R's, PSX, DC, PS2 and Xbox games listed on Isonews. 2 are 10mb sites and the other 2 are 100mb sites so my download speeds are between 160-200K(I have a 2mb DSL line).
If you can't get access to a private ftp site then use newsgroups because all the other p2p apps let peole download shit from you thus robbing all your speed and tying up your computer for hours. Get Forte's Agent if you only have one newsserver or Newsgrabber if you have a couple of them but don't use those spyware filled, non secure p2p apps. -
I forgot to say why I prefer "Direct Connect"...
lots of the files SUPPOSEDLY only on IRC or newsgroups, are often found on "Direct Connect" too... just have to find the right hub...
Newsgroups bite the big one. Sure, you may ocassionally stumble on what you want, but it's typically in 100 or more chunks (rar) that you have to piece together later... not worth the effort... -
ROTFLMAO, Man I didn't realize there were so many P2P junkies out there. Newsgroups have always been the way to go and if you know how the system works then you can find what you want. Though I'm not sure I want many more P2P junkies on the newsgroups some of the groups are getting freaky with the newbies. Especially since most P2P people don't know how to act civilized in a civilized environment. They are more like parasites that latch on and just want more and bitch if they don't get it. So hey stick with the P2P. See the wonders of newsgroups and even irc for the most part is you learn the system, you learn respect for the system and you learn to get along and quit letting your inner pampered child out that is screaming give me, give me, give me. I can't work a rar file, there are to many chunks, its all broken up. oh and god forbid you get someone that doesn't grasp the concept of finding the rules or paying attention the the vets. Okay, ya know its early I haven't had my coffee and well I figured it was good to start my day out with a rant.
ya all have fun now ya hear.
think I'll go get my dennis leary cd "no cure for cancer" and play track 1.
buy it here, or if you just wanna find out what track 1 is:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000005IKZ
now I'm going to go have coffee flavored coffee and smoke my tumor cigarettes with the skull and crossbones on them. ttfn -
many groups have their own rules and etc. check for a faq. such as mp3 groups check this out
http://www.mp3-faq.org/faq5.html
also pay special attention to posting rules in the binaries and if you don't know ASK BEFORE POSTING. -
not that i am a fan of P2P but i have been on filetopia latelly.
www.filetopia.com
get the 2.10d and use pops server with navigator also on that site.
chose a movie room and start lurking.
set your share list to share and not trade.
if you trade you get kicked alot.
but if you share what you have people will be more than happy to help you find your stuff.
#FBO - lots of current flicks.
#1st movies - more current flicks.
#GRCH - just pop in and say hi to me
and you can search for flicks with the search engine.
have fun.
later. -
i would have to agree with grouch. We were all newbies once but newbies these days dont appreciate what the groups do and all they want is more more more. I say let them have their lame p2p programs and others like my self can enjoy the more sophisticated things

I have read this thread and it has led me to believe that maybe this is why sometimes I run into problems when encoding. However I am one of those "dreaded" newbies that you all hate so much and I am not so sure because I am still learning the art of conversion and authoring, etc. I have ran into warnings on tmpge such as "file unsupported" or "can't be found" and It confuses me because the files properties clearly say Divx. I have downloaded Divx codec 5 so I thought that I wouldn't have problems with this particular file, but it does not recongnize it. Is this what you all mean by people out there naming files incorrectly or lying, so as to make others believe they are getting one thing (AVI or MPG) when in fact they are getting a bunch of shit?
I have finally successfully converted and burned my first VCD with a file that was supposed to be "Enough", but halfway through encoding I found out that it was back to back trailers. I went along with it though, because so far it has been the only one that I could find that Tmpge would support, and all the other ones files that I tried ended up being "not supported."
Maybe I am wrong, it is very possible that I just still don[t know what the hell I am doing. If any of you sophisticated pros (lol) could give me suggestions, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
budgirl357
Ps - When I said "sophisticated pros" I was joking, not being sarcastic, so don't get you alls pantys in a bunch
