Hi all, I'm having serious problems capturing sound with my ATI TV Wonder.
Using:
- Windows XP
- MMC 7.1
- AMD 1900+
- 512 RAM
- a good amount of HD space
The problem is my sound is AWFUL on my captured video with any software, any format (mgeg, avi) but it sounds fine when I'm just listening to the live feed and when I'm recording that live feed. By awful I mean that there is a hiss that is quite loud and the volume of the sound is much lower than when I'm listening to it normally. I have my sound connected through the internal cables that were included with the ATI card. CD-RW to ATI TV Wonder to Motherboard (I have onboard audio with my ASUS mb). I've tried muting all inputs and outputs other than CD Audio when recording but that gives me the same poor audio. I've tried recording from the S-Video feed, I've tried recording from the cable feed. I've tried changing the sound cables. I've tried different software other than MMC. I've tried playing with all the different sound settings. I've tried everything I can think of and I just don't understand why the sounds comes through fine live but is so bad when I record it? If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it!!!

I know this is no help but I'm experiencing the same problem.
I just switched from a TV antenna to DirectTV. The Picture quality and sound quality of the program I recorded is terrible. I even switch from coax connection to using the S-video and two audio cables with no better results. The picture and sound quality while just watching shows is great. Previously when I recorded from the TV antenna everything came out pretty good. Could there possibly be something sent in the signal to worsen the recording quality? -
There could be several things causing your problems. The main one is probabily a grounding problem. You will need an AC voltmeter to check for this. Disconnect the antenna input and take one lead from the voltmeter and connect it to the shield(outer case) of the antenna cable, take the other lead and connect it to your computer case(bare metal area). If you read more than .5 volts AC you have an AC grounding problem in your house. Try plugging in the computer and satellite into the same outlet to see if the problem clears up. Also you might want to check the 3.5mm audio plug that plugs into your sound card for corrosion.
