  2. 1.How much stuff do you have to edit out to get a dvd onto a dvd-r?

u need to rip out enough to get it all on about 4.5gb on a single sided dvd-r....most dvds today are dual layered, allowing just over 9gb of data on just one disc

    2. Can I get te movie,deleted sceens and dd 5.1 onto a 4.7 dvd-r?

    yes, its possible

    3. Aproximately how much tome does it take to make a back-up with 1gig hz, from start to finish?

depends really on ur settings, id say on average for a 1GHz could probably encode a movie in about 6 hours, give or take greatly by ur settings and length of the movie

right now im happy with 1x media cause its so cheap, but i guess thats just a matter of opinion, my burner has burn proof technology so i am able to use my pc while burning, even if it DOES take an hour... cant beat $1.50 for a dvd-r...once again, ur opinion

    5. Any opinions ont he vivstar dvd writer?$299 and their brand disc around $2.50

    ut uh, maybe others might

  3. THANKS DVation,

I know question 1 and 2 of mine were similar, and I know that most dvd are on dual layer 9.
Now are ther ways to keep checking on how many gigs you go down per item you remove?
Surely not every dvd out the takes up the full 9gigs right?

    Thanks in advance

  4. quite a few older movies are single layer and can just be simply ripped to the hardrive (using smart ripper or dvd decrtyptor, and ripping all the files ) and then burned back ( using the same directory structure. with Nero ) But newer movies ( with some rare exceptions ) are usually dual layer in between 7 to 9 gb of data, due to extra deleted scenes, interviews, extra audio tracks. subtitles. ect.

you can use ifo edit to rebuild the vob files once you rip out misc items you do not want and see what you get left as the rebuilt vob files, but as far as file estimation, not sure on that one.
