    maybe one of you can help me on deciding which dvd standalone player to buy

    2 questions

    1. what dvdplayer should i buy? (i live in europe)
    what it should support:

    -svcd,vcd,dvd,region codefree

    suggestions about brands and how to modify it

    2. are there any DVD Players that can play Mp3 Cds and normal Audio-Cds?

    It depends if you want a cheap "play all" DVD player or a more expensive brand name which will give you superior picture quality and sound. At the lower end of the market I would recommend Toshiba, Bush and Goodmans players as they do most of what you require.

    Yes there are. MP3 compatibility is becoming quite common now (again on the cheaper players) and should be advertised as part of the player specifications.

    I have a pioneer, and aside from not playing mp3's, it handles everything, and does it well. if you are planning to play dvd's, and/or you have a hdtv you're trying to take advantage of, get something with progressive scan.
    that's my 2¢ worth.

  4. I've ordered the Malata DV-520 which is the replacement for the Malata N-966. It is progressive scan, plays dvd, vcd, svcd, and is default regioncode free. So no messing around with hacks. Should get it within the next two weeks. Only thing, it is not macrovision disabled but that is not important to me.
