Ok, maybe I am doing something dreadfully wrong ... but ...

I am trying to create a VCD from a DivX avi.

I used have used a variety of tools (FlaskMPEG, TPMGEnc, VirtualDub) to create what appears to be a completely suitable mpg file (in other words I can get it to play before burning and everything seems fine).

Subsequently I have tried 2 methods to burn it as a VCD on my hp dvd writer 100j ... VCDEasy and CDRWin.

I am burning to 700MB CD-RW (Memorex High-Speed) and everything _seems_ to work out just fine throughout the burn process (I haven't used a write speed above 4x).

However, afterwards, although the media itself appears to have been written to (examining the underside of the CD), the CD is no longer recognized by my DVD writer or my CD-ROM drive.

I have tried to browse the CD contents using Windows Explorer, and nothing shows up. I have tried to open the media in both drives, and my machine rejects the CD and asks that I insert a valid CD. Needless to say, it does not play on my DVD player either.

Everything seems to go well from start to finish other than this key element

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
