  1. I have set up motherboard monitor to shut down my pc when my cpu gets to 55 degrees C. The reason for this is that I had a heat sink come off and wipe out my cpu and motherboard and I dont want it to happen again. I just lowered the shut down temp to check it was working ok and it takes about 10 to 15 seconds from reaching the temperature to shut down.

What I want to know is with no heat sink how long would it take the cpu to get from 55 degrees to destruction? because if its less than 15 seconds then this method wont be much use.

  2. If your worried about this kind of problem I'd suggest getting a different motherboard and HSF. Gotta be a faulty socket (broken plastic) or the HSF wasn't on properly to start. Or it fell down the stairs.

Should only take a couple of seconds to fry. If your BIOS tells u CPU temp on startup, leave the machine off so it goes cold then boot up. You'll notice its on about 25-30C almost straight away (depending on your HSF).

  3. Yes one of the plastic lugs on the socket broke off. It was an epox 8k7a+ with a zalman flower. In hindsite I think these heatsinks are just too heavy.

  4. I've heard they dont give all that much performance either. I stick with a good quality well known brand - globalwin, aplha or similar

  5. I have acquired a globalwin cak38 II, there was no way I was going to put that flower on my new board.
