  1. i'm trying to make my vcd/svcd play on my dvd player, but i want to encode it so it will appear in its original aspect ratio on my tv. i'm making copies so i can take my movies to school, and not care if they get damaged or stolen (i'd go crazy if anything happened to my spinal tap criterion) i am using tmpegenc to encode the vid, and nero to burn. it kinda looks crappy if i have the video compressed over the whole screen. its watchable, but i'd rather see it in 16:9. thanks in advance for any help.

  2. Sure ya can do that. Ya just need to know your source. Is it in Widescreen or 16:9? You need to treat each one different. When u encoded for VCD u r encoding the whole 4:3 area. Widescreen format should already be in 4:3 but they already put in the black bars on the top and bottom. The 16:9 format will have to be encoded as 4:3 where u put in the black bars. With TMPGEnc make sure your souce settings actually match your source. For VCD the output should always be 4:3 but the source settings can change depending on the source.

  3. If that doesnt work....

I read that u can change a full screen movie into a wide screen look by using "clip frame" in the advanced settings of TMPGenc . I have never tried it, but u might want to. Let me know how it goes.
