I have had good success in producing SVCD using Tmpgenc using CBR. Would like to try VBR in order to get more that 35 minutes on a CD. What bitrate settings would you suggest? I believe that my DVD player will accept up to 3500.
Thank You :)

The specs for SVCD say:-
max 2524 kbit/sec MPEG-2 (if the audio is in 224 kbit/s), audio + video bitrate max bitrate is 2748 kbit/s.
So if you use higher than that you are really creating a XSVCD (i.e. non standard.
Useing VBR should give you the same quality as CBR (for the same max bitrate) but allow you to get more video in less space as it will use less data for the less complex scenes and only use the full bitrate for motion scenes. The best method of finding out if you are happy with the results is to try it and see! -
Thank You for the Info! I will try your suggestions and see how big the file will be if I use the VBR settings compared to the file I produced using the CBR. I probably will use the two pass VBR to start and go from there...
Thank You again!
