3 friends have just bought the Toshiba 510E player and found that it won't play any DVD-Rs!
I think that its fair to say that it "won't" play them, rather than "can't", as the player sounds like it reads them fine, but reports "DISK ERROR"
I have a REALLY bad disk, which won't play on anything (including my PC).. When you put that in the 510, you can hear the disk trying to be read, but you don't get the disk error message.
But when you put in a 'good' disk, the disk reads for less than 5 seconds and reports 'DISK ERROR'. Its clear that the play CAN read the disk, but WON'T play it!
I have a nasty feeling that this is a software error (perhaps intentional).
Is anyone aware of this?
