  1. Not sure if this would go under conversion or editing.

I have a multiple hours long file that was an antenna TV recording. Much of it is good, but portions are glitchy from signal loss.

The recording was initially done to a .wtv file - a difficult file to find anything that will work with it, which is quite frustrating. From what I can gather, the file contains .mpg video with a resolution of 1280x720 at 59.940 fps, and ac3 stereo audio.

I have been able to convert it to an mp4 using VideoReDo, but I also have the original .wtv file if referring back to that is necessary.

From the mp4, I can extract the mpg video and convert the ac3 audio to wav.

Problem is - I'd like to edit this into something that removes the glitches. But the capture is difficult to work on, as the glitchy areas seem to result in errors and problems. This is clearly in need of some sort of repair. It's not just a recording of things glitching, it's a glitchy recording, things get unstable and glitchy when trying to work on certain portions.

Could someone recommend a process to run the capture through that would remove/repair glitchy frames and result in a stable file to work on and edit around the problematic portions?

  2. Did you try videoredo's quickstream fix ?

"glitches" is a very vague description.

What kind of glitches ? What is the type and distribution ? How would you identify them or what characteristics would allow them to be identified automatically ? Post a sample if you cannot describe it

If you remove the glitches , what would you replace them with ? Duplicate frames ? motion interpolated frames? Presumably you want sync so you need to keep the frames

  3. At the periods where signal was lost, pictures get blocky, sound may get jumpy - portions of audio missing suggesting that it just stopped capturing and didn't capture blank frames for the period of time when the signal dropped. When sweeping through the video in Vegas, sometimes the preview shows blocky/glitchy portions, sometimes it shows black blocks in the portion - guessing that it's trying to work from incomplete data to generate frames from the last fully captured frame.

    That type of stuff.

The capture I'm working from is 3 hours of a fireplace put to Christmas music, so sync isn't critical. I might cut some songs, fade a song early and crossfade to the next song, replace songs with the same song from alternate sources - not sure exactly what, but basically take this recording that is pretty stable for the most part except for some portions near the end, and work it into something that is playable/viewable without glitches.

If some of the glitches in the video could be fixed with duplicate or motion interpolated frames, that's good too.

I'll check out the quickstream fix

  4. The file that is extracted using quickstream results in Vegas crashing when trying to view or edit the end of the file. These are the types of problems that the glitchy nature of the capture are causing - I need something that, while it may still contain problems that need to be edited out, is a stable and valid file that won't freak out applications.
