My friend's PC is not booting. My first thought is that the PSU is dead (Happened to me two years ago). Checked the power cable cord, the power switch at the back of the PSU, the PSU fan is not spinning.
Before buying a new PSU and installing it, is there any way to fix the PSU?
PSU Model Corsair CX500M (installed in 2016). The PC is old with Windows 10 O/S and it doesn't do any heavy work except occasional internet surfing and creating Excel files worksheets. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Test it like described here
    https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025085372-How-to-Test-a-PSU-Power-Supply-Unit-

This will test if it is working and if all different voltages are correct, it does not test it on load. It will be a good indicator though.

repair a psu is possible but not recommended if you don't have the knowledge or tools, if it is bad replace it is the best advice.

    Thanks.

Does anybody know which component of the PSU causes it to fail? My guess is that capacitors are the first suspects.

That is impossible to tell, any part can fail, so without proper testing there is no way to know.

i do know a bit about electronics but if it was my pc i would replace it if it is bad. you will want a stable system.

It's crazy but sometimes running a hair blow dryer through the PSU fan for a couple of minutes while the computer is powered off works. Google it. I was certain that it was complete BS but did it to an old PC a couple of years ago and it started working again and does until this day (knock on wood).
