  1. I have been using these guides here to convert my divx avis to vcds. The picture quality looks great and the sounds is great but about every 2-3 minutes when I am watching it on my standalone dvd player, it becomes very blocky. The video seems to slow down to a stand still while the audio continues on for a few seconds. It eventually sorts itself out but not for a while. It's very annoying and I can't figure it out at all. I am using both cdr and cdrw @ a burn speed of 4X and 8X. I have used TMPGenC12a and burning with Nero and VCDEasy but with no luck. Also, all my other vcds work great. It's just the converted avis that don't work.

    Any ideas???

  2. use nero instead of vcdeasy

do you use virtuldub first before using tmpebenc
you should use the newest version of both
We were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked?

  3. Does the video play okay on your computer?
Are you using a standard VCD template?

If yes to the first question and no to the second, the bitrate is probably too high for your standalone DVD player.
No to the first, yes to the second means you should probably get the latest versions of VitualDub and TMPGEnc and find that stupefyingly flawless method of encoding avi with wav file.
Yes to the first, yes to the second : Try another type of CDR/RW - Check to make sure your DVD player is on this site's compatibility list - Take your player in for a cleaning - Upgrade firmware for your player

And many more possible reasons :P . Hopefully, it's one of the first two reasons.

  5. Is your divx a internet download?? If so it is more than likely ntscfilm 23.976. Convert it to ntsc29.97. I had the same problem on my apex at 23.976. When I encoded it to 29.97 it played perfect on my apex.

  6. I'll try that, but here's the thing...should I convert prior to using TMPGenc because up until now, I have always just chosen framerate of 29.97 in the configure menu even if it was 23.96. So do you think it'll work if I do it prior???

  7. If the video is 23.976 to start with when you go to tmpgnc to encode it to the mpeg just select the template for ntsc. up the bitrate if you want better quailty. Also you can re-mux the video before burning.
