You can add selectable subtitles to the mpg that can be watched on a standalone dvd but if you want permanent subtitles to watch on computer I think you need to re-encode.

OK I assume you are ripping a DVD. First you need to extract the subtitles with subrip 0.97 and save the bitmaps and save as a phillips *.sub file. Then you can multiplex these to your mpeg with SubMux. I personally use SubMux GUI to help set it up as it is a command line program. Can get submux from Tools section to right and you can get the GUI from www.doom9.net.

  5. yeah, but i still dont understand... i've allready converted the avi file (which was my source), to a mpeg2 svcd file and i've downloaded the subtitles from internet..

the subs are now in *.srt format and i've converted them to *.ssa..
but how can i put them to my mpeg.. selectable or not, that doesnt matter.. i just want to burn it to cd with the subs and without ecoding again.. is that possible ??

    thnx allready :-)

  6. You can add subtitles - AVI source and ssa subtitles format
usung Virtualdub Full processing mode and subtitles plugin -
frameserve and encode with TMPGEnc but yes i know.. you must to encode again--
(dont forget uncheck DirectShow Multimedia File Reader en Enviroment
section in TMPGEnc. ) and VFAPI .
you can use this method to add subtitles to a MPG with an MPG source too and it will work fine.
i use that and works for me..

before making selectable subs I recommend you to first test that selectable subs works first
www.vcdhelp.com/svcd.htm#sample and also which one that works, CVD or SVCDsubs.

Sorry I took so long. You can use MaestroSBT to convert your *.ssa files to bitmaps and the Phillips *.sub text file needed for Submux or Winsubmux to multiplex to your finished mpg file. MaestroSBT can be found to the right in the tools section or all these can be found at www.doom9.net and there may be a guide there as well.
