Upgrade laptop or buy new one for 4k editing

Hi all

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen 1
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10510U CPU @ 1.80GHz 2.30 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
Video: NVIDIA GeForce MX330

Editing 4k videos is extremely slow and painful. Despite watching many tutorials to improve lagging it is still too bad.

I was considering increasing the RAM to 32GB. Do you think this will help or it is a waste of time and money and you would recommend buying a new laptop/PC, bearing in mind that the latter option is way more expensive?

I would buy an M2 Mac laptop purely for editing. HD+ editing is just something that Mac has long been better at, especially the new M processors. The OS also doesn't lag on the system like Windows does.

Leave the Windows system for everything else.

If you insist on Windows, then buy the most bleeding edge laptop you can find.

I had a look at Mac laptop. Would you recommend the Airbook or the MacBook Pro 13” or the new Macbook Air? They bot mount the M2 chip and can mount up to 24 GB of RAM

If you upgrade you can consider using a video card in your pc to help in processing your video. I upgraded my laptop and got one with the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 for video, I don't play games. If I use a software that uses the video card it is quite a bit faster. The main thing is to use a software that will use the video card. In my tests Adobe Premiere worked really well with the video card but unfortunately my CorelVideoStudio doesn't seem to want to use the card. IIRC Nero used the video card and was quite fast.

To some extent, the exact Mac chosen it preference. The important part is the specs., that M2.

M2 has GPU cores.

Tight software integration is another point for Mac. Less variables, so optimizes easier. You only really have Final Cut, Avid, and Adobe. ProRes codecs. etc.

I'm not some Mac fan, most of my Mac related posts are reasons NOT to use it. But here, this, easily one of the better options.
