  1. Hi, I've been capturing video and burning some VCDs and some SVCDs but the quality isn't to great. I've burned other videos (not created by me) on (s)VCD that have a lower bitrate and have better quality than mine. I would like to burn at the lowest bitrate but get good quality (preferably quality but I want to fit the most I can on one cd). What am I doing wrong?

I capture real time MPEGI/II with my AVERTV PVR on a
    P4 1.6ghz
    60gig HDD
    512DDR MB
The best results I've created have been with 2500kb video and
    224kb audio @ 352x240

but I've downloaded videos of 1700kb video and 256kb audio @ 352x240 with excellent quality, comparable to what I capture with.

    Please help!!!

  2. The difference in quality might be the source. When you capture video from VHS tape, you can't do better than tape itself. If your tape is noisy and crappy, your capture and conversion will go downhill.

The high-quality stuff you downloaded might be ripped off from DVD source, which is much better than VHS capture. As a result, conversion quality improves significantly. And remember, VCD format is no better than VHS. [/quote]

  3. usually, something has to give...either # of discs...or the quality...

obviously, the more discs u willing to put the movie on, the higher the quality will be...if you wanna fit as much as possible on one disc w/o losing too much quality, i suggest SVCD, or maybe even xVCD...

standard VCD 2.0 is getting outdated and low quality (crappy bitrate, CBR not nearly as good as VBR, low resolution)

keep on mind there are things u can do to increase quality w/o increasing filesize (multiple pass VBR, high motion search accuracy, higher resolution)
