  1. I have a Win10 DeskTop System and DVD Shrink and VLC Media Player.

I have Ripped a lot of My DVDs to My System.

I know I have to get a Blue Ray Drive for My System to Play Blue Ray DVDs.

But can DVD Shrink Rip Blue Rays if I get a Blue Ray Drive?

DVD Shrink can't rip Blu-ray discs even if you get a Blu-ray drive.

If you get a Blu-ray drive then MakeMKV can rip Blu-ray discs as movie-only MKVs or the entire contents of the disc as files and folders. BD Rebuilder is supposed to be able to shrink Blu-ray discs ripped as files and folders if you need to save space. Note that I haven't ever tried Blu-ray BD Rebuilder so I can't say if it does a good job or not.

  5. Do You know if DVD Decrypter can Rip Blue Ray DVDs?

I have put a lot of My DVDs on My Hard Drive as .VOB Files Un Compressed.

I would like to do this with My Blue Ray DVDs as well.

None of the above is possible.

DVD Decrypter won't work for Blu-ray discs because DVD and Blu-ray are too different. Plus, development for DVD Decrypter ended before Blu-ray was released.

Blu-ray doesn't use VOB files. It uses .m2ts files. You would need to store .m2ts files from the Blu-ray on your hard drive instead of VOB files.

And just to be clear, there is no such thing as a "bluray dvd". That's like saying a "dvd cd".
    It is either a:
    CD or
    DVD or
BLURAY (or "blu-ray disc" aka BD)

3 completely different formats. There are also variations within each of the general physical format whose logical formats are distinct and not compatible. For example, Blu-ray (HD) vs. Blu-ray 3D vs. UltraHD (4k)* Blu-ray. Or DVD-Video vs. DVD-Audio.

Ripping any of these into a form other than a direct disc image format (e.g. ISO) is always going to be more format-specific with the toolset.

*some would contend that UHD BD is different enough as to be its own physical format.

  8. m2ts is MPEG2 Transport Stream.
    VOB is MPEG2.

Are they not the same MPEG2?
    Quote Quote
  9. Yes, but .m2ts is the standard container for Blu-ray audio/video and can include the video in different formats like mpeg-2 (same as in .VOB), mpeg-4 part 10 (AVC) or VC1.
Mpeg-4 is transport agnostic, so MPEG-4 content can be transported over an MPEG-2 transport stream (MPEG-2 TS) which is the standard for Blu-ray.

Not very often. Although MPEG-2 is allowed for Blu-ray, it is apparently very rare for commercially produced discs to use MPEG-2. I have not personally seen any commercial Blu-ray discs that use MPEG-2. H.264 and VC1 are far more common on Blu-ray discs than MPEG-2 because they offer better compression.

You can backup an entire BluRay in its original structure with MakeMKV, what I often use.

M2TS is Mpeg2 Transport stream container
VOB is special subset of Mpeg2 Program stream container

The tools for accessing different container types will also differ.

But saying, "they are both mpeg2" is a bit naive - mpeg2 video and mpeg2 audio are also both mpeg2 elementary streams, but you wouldn't treat those the same way either.

Pardon me, I read what you wrote. You wrote:

I referred to the last part where you wrote:

and tried to point out that - what I thought you might not know - MakeMKV can also copy an entire BluRay with everything intact, that means original m2ts streams plus everything else.
If you knew that already I apologize, just wanted to help, not correct.

  15. Well I have some Blue Ray Discs.

Now like I Say I Rip a lot of My DVDs and put the VOB Files on My Hard Drive.

So then I can Play them Off and On with My VLC Media Player.

Now I do know DVDs are not HD and Blue Ray Discs are HD.

If I got a Blue Ray Player for My DeskTop can I not Rip My Blue Ray Discs to VOB with PovTube Blue Ray Ripper?

Or is this not what it is for?

I doubt that VOBs are offered as option for Blu-ray ripping with Pavtube BDMagic Blu-ray ripper. VOBs are probably only allowed for DVD ripping.

I have used VLC to play TS, MP4, and MKV files, which PavTube also mentions as ripping options. Note that I haven't seen any VideoHelp members mention that they use Pavtube for ripping. If you think you might need help with ripping, MakeMKV has more users at VideoHelp.

[Edit]I did a forum search for "Pavtube". The results were not encouraging. Buy at your own risk.

Some Blu-ray drives can only read Blu-ray and don't burn BD media so they won't allow creating a copy of a Blu-ray disc on BD media. If someone has good Blu-ray ripping software, it should always be possible to rip or copy regular Blu-ray to your HDD with a Blu-ray drive, even with a drive that can only read Blu-ray discs. Rip-lock only slows down the copying process.

Some standard Blu-ray drives and even some UHD Blu-ray drives don't allow ripping/copying UHD Blu-ray discs because their firmware prevents it. Other standard Blu-ray drives and UHD Blu-ray drives can rip/copy UHD Blu-ray with new drive firmware installed using software that supports UHD Blu-ray ripping. I suggest that you don't worry about ripping UHD Blu-ray. You are having enough trouble with ripping regular Blu-ray.
