  1. You have to make sure that in the VFW decoder tab of the ffdshow config that it is set to libavcodec for DivX 3 and not disabled.
    How do I do that? It would be particularly helpful if you told me how to get that whole "VFW decoder tab of the ffdshow config" thingee.... Thanks!

    If you just want to watch a video, install VLC or mpc-hc

    This old thread refers to loading the video in VirtualDub to edit it.

    To watch it in a media player, you either use a media player which includes all necessary decoders (like those mentioned above) or install a DirectShow decoder filter for the mentioned video format, like LAV Filters, for any general DirectShow supporting media player.

    You probably also want to do the same for ffdshow's DirectShow decoder:

    Start -> All Programs -> ffdshow (or ffdshow64) -> Video Decoder Configuration ->...
