I recently ripped Star Wars Episode 1 from a DVD. The rip went fine and so I proceeded to DVD2AVI to make the .d2v file, however, when I preview the movie (F5) to check for the FPS, it seems to give me an extraordinarily high rate. It tells me it is about 70-100 FPS. Now I know this cannot be right. Any help? Thank you very much for you help.

dvd2avi will preview as fast as your machine allows. the fps for ALL dvds is either 25 or 29.97
-
Well. isn't there also NTSC Film? In any case, I thought that the preview button allowed you to estimate the framerate of your movie? How then can I tell what the framerate is?
-
you can't tell the framerate directly because when you start creating the project file and the info box pops up, the fps indicated in that box will depend on whether you enable force film or not...
if you enabled forced film, the fps will be 23.976, if you didn't the fps will be 29.97. thus, don't use fps to judge wut the source video type is...
the info box in dvd2avi will tell you whether the video is NTSC, interlaced or FILM, progressive.
NTSC is pure 29.97 fps and if this is the case you should DISable force film in dvd2avi and use the NTSC template in tmpgenc
FILM is 23.976 fps + 3:2 pulldown (making it 29.97 fps during playback when u're watching it), you should ENABLE forced film in dvd2avi and use the NTSC FILM template in tmpgenc -
I understand that but that's AFTER you've indentified which type of video you are dealing with. My question is how do you identify what type of video it is to begin with?
-
errr...i'm confused on wut you're asking here...dvd2avi will tell you wut type the video is to begin w/ either NTSC, interlaced or FILM, progressive (not including the PAL stuff)
