    Gday All,

I've just acquired a Startech USB3HDCAP and am trying to capture HDMI from my EZ-48V. All I get is "No Signal" and very occasionally, for a few seconds, "HDCP".

I have a "doohickey" HDMI splitter in the flow:

I can capture HDMI OK from the same tape on my Samsung Vr-355, however when I take the doohickey out of the flow, it too shows "HDCP".

The EZ-48 is outputting HDMI as I can view it on a TV.

It looks like it has something to do with HDCP, but I don't understand how that all works.

The doohickey is titled "HDMI 1.3/Splitter 1x2".

I can capture HDMI from my Canon HV20 video camera, BTW.

If someone could shed some light on why I can't capture HDMI from my EZ-48 I'd be grateful.

    Thanks, Alwyn

The EZ-48 like all Panasonics isn't known to be overly CP crazy, of course, it won't record a CP'd signal but it doesn't add any false CP either.
Maybe if you explained exactly what your trying to do we might be better able to help. It sounds like your trying to capture a VHS tape that has CP? Note a VHS tape won't have digital CP or HDCP but rather the old-fashioned MV which is best removed by a video filter, or TBC if you've got tons of money and are put off by video filters. Note either will only have analog inputs/outputs so if your only capture device does HDMI, I'm not sure how you tie it in.....

@JJeff, yes, sorry, I should have said I'm trying to capture a VHS tape from the HDMI port on the 48. It is a tape with various personal videos on it and a TV show, recorded on another of my personal VHS machines.

I'm using Virtual Dub to capture but AmerecTV shows the same: "No Signal".

I've just noticed that when I plug the HDMI lead from the splitter (and before that the 48) into the USB3HDCAP into the 48 front display displays "HDMI" for a short time.

There seem to be no relevant menus on the 48.

The HDMI display on the EZ-48 is just displayed during the HDMI handshake routine. Have you tried manually changing the resolution output of your EZ-48v? I can't see why it would matter but it might be worth a try. Other than that I can't explain why your able to use your Samsung but not EZ-48v, I assume the Samsung is also a Combo VHS/DVD? Also are you able to display menu's and such from your EZ-48v to your capture device and does it only go blank when you try playing your tape? The EZ-48v is a pretty old combo, circa 2008 so it can't be anything with using some new sort of CP......weird.

Bang head emoji! I went through the menus 20 times and couldn't find anything; I tried once again at your suggestion and there it was; a couple submenus in, I changed the HDMI output to 576i and I have a picture.

I have found that every time I change the HDMI path (pull out the plug from the doohickey box or capture box), the EZ-48 resets the HDMI connection back to Auto.

I can confirm that the above-imaged doohickey works.

    Thanks for your help!
