  1. Hi,

I have taken a load of footage with a JVC DV cam (vintage 199 but to transfer to the PC I bought a Panasonic DS33. Now I thought that all DV cams recorded in the same format and so were interchangeable but when I try and play some of the JVC tapes through it i get a 'Unplayable format' and a lovely rainbow screen of little blocks (and no sound either).

    The question really is that:

    1. Is this unique to the panasonic and so if i bought another cam then I would be able to play the old tapes.
    2. If 1 is false, then would I be better buying a JVC cam - will this allow me to read the old tapes.

    Yours very confused

  2. The manual for my Sony advises that compatability of tapes recorded in long play mode can be problematic if not played on the camcorder used to record them. Standard play is much less critical of the tolerances involved.

  3. I always use standard play on all recordings. Maybe I will have to buy another JVC which will be a pain as I did want to get a Sony.

    Cheers
