Ok guys, I plug this sucker in and my monitor wont display anything. I guess I have to turn off the existing driver or video card. How would I go about doing this?

  2. You might have the option to disable it in your BIOS, in the "integrated peripherals" (or something similar) section. If that option doesn't exist, post here again.

jesus, do not take this post the wrong way, it's NOT intended to be negative.

Mirror_Image told you the most logical place to look and your answer was telling! If you are not familar with the terms, integrated video, BIOS, CMOS or how to change these types of system settings you are way over your head and I would recommend you find a friend or relative to help or pay the damn $50.00 to a computer shop to install your new video card.

There is no way anyone can tell you how to do this one and you may find yourself very sorry if you do get into your BIOS/CMOS and change settings.

Also, this may not be a CMOS setting at all. It may very well be a jumper on the motherboard or both. This is along the lines of wanting to use FDISK but don't know what that does.

    Proceed carefully!

    http://www.pcnineoneone.com/index.html

    In particular, this section:

    http://www.pcnineoneone.com/howto/vidinst1.html

And this might be useful as well:

  12. Jesus, just a word of caution. Do you have a P4 system?? The ATI PCI card doesn't like P4 boards. When I built my new computer (P4) I transferred my PCI card over and had static in my audio. Tried everything in the book to no avail. Just happened to be looking through the FAQs on ATI's site and noticed that they stated that the ATI PCI wasn't compatiable with the P4 config., bought an AGP card and the problem went away. Due to the higher cost of the PCI card over the AGP, I was able to recoupe almost all the cash I laid out for the AGP card.

If this response doesn't apply, sorry for wasting your time....just didn't want you to grow anymore grey hairs, Andy

  15. I'm glad you got things straightened out. Last year I went through 3 computers and I don't know how many video cards trying to find the right combination. I installed an AIW 128 PCI in my last computer, and it made my on-board sound system disappear. I mean, it never came back. finaly had to install a separate sound card. After dealin with a year of that, the general consensus was. . . a lot of these new confuser setups with onboard graphics chips simply won't allow you to change anything. For some reason, sometimes you can't get the puter to recognize anything but the onboard graphics. AND, you know you won't find this in writing anywhere. LOL

Hey I think your right. My onboard sound card still works but I cant hear anything when I want to hear the tv on my computer. The wizard only has cd, microfone( the only one that gets sound but not to the one I want. Its the kind of sound you get when you put two speakers together), Line, and phone line. I dont get how to make it work. I'll check the forum for answers. Dont really want to ask how, since someone already said I was in over my head. Thanks.
