  1. Having just purchased this DVD player, I've noticed that it cannot play SVCDs. It stutters and skips something fierce.

I read in one of the reviews that I can use TMPGEnc to convert my SVCDs to 480x480 MPG1 streams, and burn it with Nero (obviously with standard compliance turned off). Has anyone here even tried this? I'm completely new to the coding/converting scene... usually I snag my Dark Angel episodes off usenet in bin/cue format and just burn 'em with Fireburner....

So, as such, I'm not quite sure where to look for help in converting these pre-existing SVCDs into 480x480 MPG1 files so I can burn 'em as VCDs and then watch 'em in this player...

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

This may be what you meant, but using TMPG, choose MPEG tools. On the simple multiplex tab, load the SVCD file, then choose MPEG-1 Video CD under the stream type setting. The files will still be MPEG 2 files, but it will re-write the header, tricking the player into thinking they're VCD compliant MPEG-1 files.

I've used this workaround on my Panasonic RV-31 which doesn't read SVCDs, and it's worked like a charm. The Lord of the Rings SVCDs that have been circulating around work like they were in DVD form. :) It doesn't work for every player, but it's certainly worth a try. :)
