I got a message this morning as I was signing into an existing Yahoo Email Account that I could be locked out if I didn't soon put in a cell phone number for contact. I set up my Yahoo Email account many years ago for the sake of anominity. I don't have a cell phone and I wouldn't want to give Yahoo or G Mail my landline contact number.
I am rather frightened as my Yahoo Email Address is my contact email address for here and other forums. Is there an email platform that doesn't require a cellphone number?

I used to get that message from Yahoo also. Don't think you have to worry as I didn't give them a cell phone number for many years. However, it will become mighty useful if ever your email gets hacked and the hacker changes your password so that you can no longer get in. That secondary phone number is used to verify you so that you can get your mail account restored.
