Could anybody give me some advise on how to improve the poor distorted audio that comes with most .avi films I have dowloaded.
I have been using TMPEGEnc to convert file to .mpg and have been using Nero 5.5 to burn to cdr. This method works fine and can be played on a DVD player except the soundtrack is so poor.
I have just learned how to extract the .wav file from the .avi film using VirtualDub 1.4.10 and I am wondering if there is anyway of maybe cleaning the sound up a bit?
Any advise on this would be very appreciated.

that depends on what you mean by "cleaning the sound up a bit"
if you're talking about a hiss, do a search for that in this forum--you'll find some good methods described in previous posts. if you're just talking about the quality of the sound, you might want to try using toolame and SSRC as external tools in TMPG for the audio, or use Besweet/GUI to do the sound and then do video only in TMPG and mux them later.
