Have a dual layer DVD but makeMKV cannot find the content on both layers and so only rips half the files or one layer. I used DVDVob2mpg to see the vob files but cannot play or get to those "unseen" vob files either. It just crashes the program. I can rip the first 3 large vob files but from then on it's no go and the 3 vob files i did rip are playable but the content will not display correctly, as in it's mostly black screen with the odd block of image. The audio plays though. I tried to rip the iso with power dvd but it said it had CSS protection. Any advice or ideas? Thanks.

Might be a drive or disc issue.
Make sure the surface of the dvd is mirror clean.
Soft cloth.
Or some like me, soap and water, pat dry with towel.
...
Try a different dvd drive. -
Could be a defective pressing, esp if the zoo had the disc produced via "Burn On Demand" batches at a commercial authoring firm. The weird non-spec CSS sometimes embedded on those discs gives software players and rippers fits. The definitive indication the disc is hopelessly out-of-CSS-spec or defective is if your PowerDVD cannot play it normally all the way thru: whatever its faults, the one thing PowerDVD does better than anything else is "power" thru bad authoring and defects to play nearly any disc imaginable, even unfinalized recorder dvds.
If the disc does play completely normally in PowerDVD, double check it in a hardware standalone player. Often a disc will seemingly play OK in PowerDVD while still being so poorly pressed/authored that standard players choke on it: if thats the case, again you will find it near impossible to rip. You could try the disc salvage program IsoBuster, but it costs $39 to enable full functionality, can take forever and a day to extract video from discs like this, and may still fail to extract everything intact. In some instances the only way to get anything off such a disc is to capture it via the analog outputs of a standalone player into a PC video capture accessory, and even then some glitchy parts might end up missing (resulting in an abridged edit of the material)..Last edited by orsetto; 26th Apr 2020 at 09:53.

if you still have dvdfab installed, start dvdfab, click common settings (upper right hand corner) click drives - read - check ignore all reading errors automatically restart dvdfab and retry the disc again. then try common settings - click DVD - click pathplayer - click disable pathplayer, restart dvdfab and retry the disc again.
