  1. I just picked up a DVD burner and am starting out in the world of DVD creation. I have created a couple of DVD-R and -RW disks from old hi8 home movies that I have and I am pretty happy with the results. My question is this. Is it possible to do a diskcopy of a DVD-R or DVD-RW to another DVD-R or DVD-RW (like CD-R to CD-R)? If so, what is the best software to use? I understand it is possible to rip the info off the DVD and then burn it to another DVD, but I just want to copy one disk to another without all the ripping or reauthoring. I only wish to make copies of my own DVDs that I have created on my burner (Pioneer 104) so I don't believe there is any encryption element involved. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks

only problem i can see youll have from the get go is that if you try to disk copy a DVD to DVDr is that the source is around 9 gigs (double layer) and dvdr media is only 4+ gigs (single layer). so you wont have room.

  3. use dvd decrypter, it has option to rip DVD to image, then just burn it back to DVD-R with dvd decrypter or any other tool

To answer your question, Yes, a DVD-DVD copy is possible (I do it all the time). I use NERO 5.5.8.0.

Yes, that version of Nero does a great job.
I just got the new Pioneer set top DVD recorder and tried to make copies of a disc using Prassi (comes with the Pioneer A-03 computer DVD burner), and if failed.
Using Nero to create an image, I'm able to make as many copies of that disc as I want.

  6. Okay, thanks for the quick replies. SLK001 I think you are on to what I am asking about. I only want to diskcopy DVD-R or -RW disks that I have edited and authored myself. It is already on 4.7gb media and only contains about 3-4gb of video. It seems to me it would be easier to just do a diskcopy, if possible, rather than rip and burn or image to disk and burn or reauthor and burn.
What is the best way to get Nero 5.5.8.0? I have never used Nero, is it real straightforward and easy to use? I am new to this stuff and a slow learner to boot.

Go to EBay and search for NERO. You can get a full version for less than $20. You can also download 5580 as a trial from:

    http://www.nero.com/

You'll get full useage for about 30 days (buy it to get a serial number to continue use). I've used many different burner softwares... NERO tops them all - hands down!
