  1. I have recorded some home DV footage onto VCD using Nero 5.5. under win2000. On playback all I get is block of grey over a block of green using any player. Any ideas?

  2. What program and settings did you use to encode the MPEG1 file?

  4. Nero has a built in stream checker for VCD and SVCD, but it does not encode MPEG fles. There is an add-on planned, but you would have to buy it separately. I'm not sure it's even available yet.

  6. i tried using the nero mpeg encoder and it didn't work too well. nothing showed up on my standalone. i then used tempgenc to encode the file and then burned that file on nero. thatplays on my standalone. so maybe, like me, nero mpeg encoder just plain sucks. just a thought. try to convert with tempgenc first and then burn. see what happens.

  7. I stand corrected. Nero 5.5 does have an MPEG-1 encoder. It's the MPEG-2 encoder that has to be purchased separately, when it's available.

I captured an AVI clip with my ATI Radeon and dropped it into Nero using the default settings. It encoded very quickly, and the video quality wasn't at all bad on my Pioneer.

I'm using Nero 5.5.3.5. You may want to upgrade if you haven't already. Also, what AVI format is your DV in? I used the UYVY format and had no problems.

  8. OK,

I tried the tempgenc encoder and then (after changeing the settings 10 times) created the VCD with Nero. AND it worked fine. Teh tempgenc coder is fairly slow and took about twice as long as theNero coder.

The verison of the Nero I have is 5.5.1.5 so its quite recent. I'll try upgrading and see if it makes any differnce

Thanks for everyones help - I'll repost when I've tryed the upgrade.
