Recommended software for a Youtube channel?

Dear Experts,

Thanks for all your help in the past.

After watching many channels on Youtube, I'm
thinking of making one myself.

I would like to show images and video clips in
the background. And then do a voice over.
Perhaps some text over images and clips.
It's not about me, so, like some other
channels, I'm not planning on showing
videos of myself talking, but my content.

So, I'm looking for some video editing software that
will work on my Windows 7 computers.

The software should be simple and easy enough to learn, and use.
The objective is not to become an expert on
video software, but to make videos.

I want to spend most of my time with the content, and
just a little bit of time fighting with the software.
Not vice versa.

What is a recommended software that would work for me?

You might want to buy a copy of "The Filmmakers Handbook". It's cheap and very enlightening. Look on Amazon.

I myself started out with this fantastic book that spells out all the ins and outs of movie/video making. It's tough getting eyeballs nowadays, and you really have to innovate to stay on top.

The software I recommend is Sony Vegas Pro. If you buy now you probbly never have to upgrade again. Movies and Video are all moving to online and that's highly compressed. Right now the homeowner video maker is on par with the pros.

Sony Vegas Pro has a simplicity and elegance, but with a deep set of tools that only show themselves to the worthy.

Since you’re a beginner, I wouldn’t suggest going to Vegas Pro. I personally use it and love it but if you’re just starting out you should probably go with Sony Movie Studio/Sony Movie Studio Platinum. You should be able to do all the stuff you are wanting with those and it will be cheaper than the more advanced version (Vegas Pro).

My $0.02. Get the opinions of others whether you have a "radio voice" or not. There's a lot of Youtube videos that have content I'm interested in that I just turn off because I can't stand the narrator's voice, especially if it's commentary or informational.

A lot of people don't like one of my favorite channels, Linus Tech Tips because Linus' voice is a bit high pitched and whiny (sorry Linus, just saying what I think), but he's so informative and real, I can listen to him for hours.

Look for video game reviews and see how long you can watch a video with the narrator having a whiny, shrill, annoying voice. Pretty visuals are important, but so is narration.

Amazon describes this as "The fourth edition of the authoritative guide to producing, directing, shooting, editing, and distributing your video or film.". I'm not interested in "producing, directing, shooting, and distributing your video or film". But I am totally ignorant on editing and need tons of help in that area. I have no clue on the different file formats or "how can 59.94 fps be significantly different than 60 fps?", as an example. Is this the book for me?

You have to absorb it little by little. Just skip to the editing part. I was never in a rush. I started building simple projects and worked it little by little. Theres no way to skip over the foundations and principles.

59.94 is interlaced and 60p is progressive. Describes the compression/storage method. When you edit, you have to conform media.

There's no such thing as a Youtube editing software. Vegas Pro has the full set of compositing and other advanced tools. But you got to have a good proficiency with the fundamentals first.

What the OP is saying is you need to have a pleasing voice or viewers will turn off.

I am trying to absorb it little by little. And i am just skipping to the editing part. I am trying to learn by building simple projects (like the one I had posted earlier) and have no intention of skipping over the foundations or principles.

budwzr, thank you. But I really wasn't wanting a specific answer to this. I was using this just as an example of my ignorance. And wondering if the book that you suggested would be good for me.

One thing I'll want to do is:
a voice over the images and video

With Adobe Premiere Elements, could I do a
presentation on my computer, screen capture it,
and record my voice over as I make the presentation?
