  1. I post two questions and no one reply to it for me? Was I asking startling questions?

Again, I have Ulead Media Studio Pro 5.2 with Matrox Marvel G400-TV video display/capture all-in-one card. I have tried different things/software and still don't understand. I like to output the video back to a VHS tape. Even as I edit the videos (with MSP) and saved it, then bring it up again, it still orginal (instead of modified).

I tried the TMPGEnc (as vcdhelp strongly recommends), I am not able to see a preview (so I couldn't go on). Is it because the Marvel creates the Microvision (something about blocking copies) or it's because MJPEG?

If any of you live in Milwaukee, WI, and know how to do such video edits, I would like to meet with you. Any other suggestions?

  2. ! it's normal that if you save the original file is still the same you have to export the file to have a new version of it. As for the preview in tmpgenc don't worry about it let it finish and then look at the completed video. If it bothers you too much just check out the options menu and make sure your preview is on( it slows down the encode tho...)

    CNT,

It sounds to me like your not rendering your edited video and saving said movie as a new video file.

You say... "I like to output the video back to a VHS tape. Even as I edit the videos (with MSP) and saved it, then bring it up again, it still orginal (instead of modified)."

It sounds to me as if you are trying to feed your video editing project back out to video tape from the timeline, it doesn't work that way. Whatever editing you're doing...... trimming clips, adding stills, add music track, doing voice over, transitions.. etc, all have to be rendered together to make a finished movie from the parts.

I could be totally off base here as there is limited information in your post. Re-post if I have missed your point or if you are rendering/saving final movie as separate video file and still unable to feed to VHS tape.

  5. Spicuzza, you understood my question correctly. I thought the timeline can be saved ("Save As...") but I guess I have to export or do something else (I have heard of "render" but I do not know what it means exactly).

"OO", what? That link was another list of forum, nothing specific?

resnullius, I did had the "preview" enabled. I also did went ahead and create a AVI, then play back, it played just like what the preview was showing (95% was messed with crossing overlay bar).

What else should I do? I have everything to do this (120GB of HDD, fast system, etc), or don't I? I just don't know how to do this. All I am doing is a simple family videos (want to put those 8 VHS into 1 VHS tape, with deleting some parts, adding nothing). Is the MSP too confusing for me? I did tried a simpler software (Avid Cinema 1.0) and it was even more confusing!? TMPGEnc looks great, but again, something I am not understanding?

  6. to "render" your video (i'm hoping it's the same in your version as mine) Go to file*/create/video file
that should do what your looking for... i hope.

  7. Sorry... here it is......
    http://forums.matroxusers.com/
check the desktop video editing forum there.... for Matrox tweaks about Macrovision etc....
To export a saved file to => VHS or TV with Matrox cards, you have to right click on a free space on your desktop then choose => properties/settings/advanced/tv output/advanced tv settings ......
But beware of which version of the driver you have..some can't handle a very good output.Check at the previous site for more accurate infos..... or with Matrox techs..

    Bonne chance!!

  8. I understand that I need to create a new AVI from an edited (MSP) timeline before I can go recording to a VHS VCR. The next problem is that "Microsoft AVI" has the 2GB limit.

I heard about AVI_IO (something like that), is that something to run in background to create a bigger AVI (say 5GB AVI)? Or I have to use the AVI_IO all the way through? This is where I am getting confused with "which software". Does TMPGEnc have those 2GB limits too? This is what I am having "trouble understand this..."

  9. Forgive me, TMPGEnc is just a converter to VCD. Anything else that can handle pass 2GB limit AND a good video editor? Or is the MSP (5.2) one of the good ones (just that I need to learn more on this?)?

  10. The limit is 4 gig and it on fat32 drives (so if you're on win98 or me that's what you've got) Premiere can handle pass 2gig and is a very good editor but the problem lies in your hard drive format. I don't know avi_io or any program that permits you to unlock the limit... but you might do a search in the forums...

  11. Soon I am going to get Windows 2000 Pro (Upgrade) and I am planning to format it into NTFS. Would that change the 2GB (or the 4GB) limits? Or the AVI within itself has that 2GB limit?

  12. i have avi file on my ntsf hard drive that are about 10gig... so yes that would change the limit. And it's fat32 that has a 4gig limit.

  13. I have FAT32. When I combine (highlite) all the 8 AVI (from Windows Explorer), it becomes 4.25GB. But, with the MSP, I edit it with parts cut off, but it may still be little over 4GB. I will see if I can cut little more and see if it REALLY does go to 4GB (especialy Win98). I will try it and will let you know the results.

  14. Well, here's the result.

Again, within Windows Explorer, when I select 6 AVI files, it comes out to 2.88GB. 7 AVI comes to 3.75GB. All 8 comes out to 4.25GB.

Within MSP, I cut off ~4 secs of commercials of each end of each AVI, combine 6 AVI, created a Video File. It came out to 1.86GB. When combined 7 AVI, it came to error message (pass 2GB) "Insufficient space on this drive. Please save to another drive or reduce file size." It's still FAT32 system, so it looks like it does not matter if it's FAT or FAT32. Still only 2GB limit.

Worst problem is after it created the new AVI (with 6 AVI), it came out all pixels boxes. My guess it's the Macrovision thing, right? Those AVI was recorded off TV (2 hours special Voyager from local channel 24).

Looks like after all those years of not even used the video capture, I just find it out now. At the same time, it's OK because now that Pinnacle Studio Deluxe is out (having capably of both analog and digital). I am going to wait a little longer to see if this is a good product. Now I can really know what I want (both formats and anti-macrovision). I am going to continue to use this Marvel I have now for Home recorded videos.
