Ok I'm running an ATI Radeon 64mb DDR ViVo card using ATI's own video capturing utility.. It works and all but saves files as *.mp2 WTF I'm sure it's some type of Mpeg but my mpeg to avi convert utility doesn't work properly. It converts to video to avi but decides to leave the audio always out. I can capture my video by avi but they are toooooo large for me to work with, some over a gig. Does anyone know of a good program to capture AVI's with? All Adobe Premiere products do not work, even on my new system that I spent a few grand on. The seem to have a conflict with all ATI cards.. MGI products do not work either.. Anyone know of anything?

  2. calm down. ".mp2" is just a file extension name. it's just an MPEG-2. it doesn't matter if you rename it file.mp2 or file.mpg or file.avi or file.xxx it's still an MPEG-2. when you used the ATI software you set it to capture MPEG-2, so what did you think it captured? you can also set it to capture MPEG-1 if you want. are you sure you captured the audio in the first place? (try playing back the .mp2 file). second, since you didn't say what program you're using to convert to avi, we can't help you.

you need to install the vfwwdm wrapper before you can use VFW capture programs. the radeon only does directshow (WDM) capture.

i suggest you read some of the "how to's" on the left and search the forums for info. your problems have been asked and answered many times, so there's lots of different solutions you can try.

I'm using ExStream to convert it to an AVI. The problem that I'm having is ExStream just won't output sound. I renamed the *.mp2 to *.mpg and it plays all red and hacked up. Still ExStream converted it fine but with no audio, and yes I did capture audio. I'm basically stuck with ATI's video in software, I've checked all others and they don't work well. Eh so I'm gona go install the vfwwdm wrapper you suggested and look for another converter.

  4. dvd2avi is free and might work for you. use v 1.74, 1.76 is still a beta.
