Well, looks like its getting a lot of hits.....
Geocities only gives 2GB of data transfer per month for free webpages.
If anyone knows of a better host, please lemme know and I will move the web page to another server. -
berrantRyke,
Well, if you want MY advice??? ...find another provider in your
area - though he/she doesn't have to be in the exact vicinity.
And, ask for just a POP account. If you do go for this, ask for
a 20MB account, as they may give it to you. My 20MB account goes
for $5 a month, LOL. Believe me, I've ben there (where U R
heading) and it's a real pain in he ass to be kicked off, or shut
down, even though you're not doing anything wrong, or posting
unauthorized file, etc. I've ben there!!
I found an old web host I use to use as my internet provider. I
gave them up years ago for a cheaper provider, but when I finally
went crazy w/ my storage site (those how d/l'd many of my xSVCD
samples) always shutting me down or dissallowing me access, I went
shopping in MY OWN area. Turns out that my very first provider
gave POP accouts as well.
A POP account is just an e-mail (or two) and provider web space.
At first, the account was for $10 a month, but for some reason, I was
told that this $$ was in error, and I now pay $5 a month!! So, in
short, it pays, to pay!! he, he.....
* 20MB @ $5 per month - - not a bad trade off, from freebees,
worrysome lockout, etc...
Make a few call, it'll be worth it in the long run.
Good luck, ...from a person who's ben there!!
-vhelp
and, no, i haven't ben to your site yet.
Hope you got some good samples to D/L ? ? ? -
Sample clips from my xVCD's along with intro and extro movies will be put on the page when I get the bandwith issue resolved.
Really, if the info there helps even one personm then it was worth the effort.
I have a cable modem, and I think I will move my page to their server next month after they make the change off of Road Runner and onto their own network.
Thanks for the advice though. -
How to calculate the number of 80min cd needed for each of the different template you provided?
-
2 80 Minutes CD's for each template. The length of the movie determines the template to use.

.jpg are way too big for basic windows screenshots. i didn't get past page3 before i lost patience waiting. use 256color .gif & if you need 16bit color overlay .jpg images on top of .gif background with css code
-
Hey, thanks! I will work on that as soon as I can!
-
But is there a formula to calculate the average, min, max bitrate if the framerate is changed to 23.976 from 29.97 and the audio from 224 to 128?
-
No way, gif's suck arse. Use .PNG, this is what VCDHelp uses for its images. It has great quality and very small file sizes. Plenty of freeware utilities are available(i got mine from www.webattack.com) that will export to PNG
-
what method do you use to get .png images to load across all browser platforms? is it possible for v3.x & v4.x browsers to utilize .png images?
-
I don't know about stanwebber's question, but I too think that PNG is great too. BTW, Jasc's Paint Shop Pro can export to PNG as well.
Try to keep the total colour count to an absolute minimum though if you are taking screenshots. For example, simply setting the "Active Title Bar" (i.e., that information strip at the top of a window) to have "colour1" and "colour2" being the same (so there isn't that smooth colour blending effect on the top) can save a lot of bytes.

.PNG would be superb, but Yahoo!Geocities only will lemme use .jpg or .gif. I am going with .gif as the file sizes are smaller. After I get this page the way I like it, I will go ahead and move the whole thing to another server. Thanks for the great info guys.
-
OK, I have fixed the guide with NEW and SMALLER images for the screenshots.
Thanks to everyone for their patience while I fixed this....
Also added a few new things.
Additional suggestions are always welcome. -
You can definitely use PNG images with Geocities... e.g., http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd

Hmm, well thanks. Seems that the smaller .gif images are working well. I am going to move it to another server next month anyways. I grabbed a copy of Batch Converter so I will convert all the .gif to .png during the transition...
Again, thanks to all for the great info's and e-mails... -
Update!!!
Instructions for Dolby Pro-Logic surround sound are posted.
There is now a FORUM for my site.
Images have been reduced in size for faster loading times.
My links page has also been updated.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and comments!
