Hey, guys.
I'm reletivly new to this and i'm having troubles making my rips work on a panasonic dvd player.
I used DVDDecrypter, then DVD2AVI, then TMPGEnc to convert my movie to VCD.
I followed the guide on the site that i got the program from (VCD GALAXY).
When i used both NERO and VCDEasy to burn the finsihed MPEG to disc it plays well on an XMS Player and another VOXSON player but not on a PANASONIC (Tried 2 models of PANASONIC). The disc just wont read on them. Is there anything special i need to do for this player.
My burner is quite old (ACER 2x2x6) do i need a newer burner?
I just think it's strange that it works in players other than the panasonic
Any IDeas??

it would be easier if you told us the model of the panasonic players...
But some players don't accept some brands of disks... and some don't accept vcds. You might want to try burning on cd-rws, they're often more compatible... -
The 2 player numbers are
RV31A and SC-HT70
The CDR used was a TDK 650 and i've tried 2 cd-rw one ACER brand and the other is Go-tech brand.
I checked the compatibility list and both players should play VCD
is it possibly something that was done during encoding? I tried to keep most of the values standard.
The only thing that makes me think this is due to a message that comes up during VCDEasy burning process that says "strange (possibly non-compliant) user_data seen..." then afterwards says "usually a sign of TMPGEnc" -
I forgot to mention, and this is the wierd bit, My brother uses the same programs with same settings (we checked via phone) and his discs work on both PANASONIC players..
The differences between my PC and His PC are reasonable.. he has celeron 700 i have duron 900, him WINME me WINXP slight ram difference and the DVD-ROM and Burner. -
have you ever tried using nero's encoder (it's far from the best but it can give you an idea as to if it's the disks or the way they where done... just chose any tiny file and encode)
-
I guess I'll ask if you've checked the obvious things ....
Are both the burner and the player head mechanisms clean?
Since the discs play in other players, have your players' been subjected to any vibrations or shocks that might have misaligned the head positioning mechanism?
Have your players had enough hours of use that the head positioning mechanism might be misaligned from use?
I know, the last two are extremely unlikely problems, especially if the drives are relatively new and play other discs. But, to paraphrase Sherlock Holmes, when you've eliminated the impossible from your list of problems ... all that remains is the impossible. -
also check if your using the same version of tmpgenc nero and vcdeasy as your brother especially tmpgenc and nero as they sometimes have their little quirks...
-
some dvd players are picky about standard compliance...if u unchecked "make standard compliant disc" in nero, that might cause u some problems
also, make sure it's a standard VCD 2.0, that mean stadard everything including mepg-1, cbr, resolution and bitrate (which i don't remember)..but must be exactly standard...otherwise, it's gonna be xVCD, which you will have to check to c if your dvd players will support -
hey i have tried burning a movie ripped and compressed using my machine but on someone elses burner and it works great..
seems my burner cant handle the pace.. it's getting pretty old now
time to trade up i guess
thanks for the help. possibly my burner isnt closing the disc properly
