    Hi Guys,

I have an MKV file which plays as 10 minutes long but really it is 45mins. If I leave it playing the timeline will stop at 10 minutes but the video continues to play right through so I know the actual file is ok, the problem lies with the timeline as after 10 minutes I cannot stop / pause the video or fast forward / rewind etc becuase it thinks it has ended...I really hope that makes sense? I thought about using a screen recorder to capture the entire video again but the quality seems to get lost when I do that and the sound goes out of sync too. Is there a programme I can use to fix the timeline on the original file?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Perhaps some info.

Your "Computor details" doesn't tell OS.
You don't mention which player you're using.

Perhaps try to drop the MKV onto MKVToolnix and press "Start multiplexing". Take a look at the log and test the multiplexed file.

Apologies, it's windows 10 and I tried loads of players VLC, WMP etc also several different converters as I thought changing the file type might help but it still plays as 10 mins even when converted to an MP4. I will try that one you suggested thanks!

    Hi,
it seems to me like you are watching stream. Mkv container is able to play for example what you are recording to this container. So no need to wait till end of encoding/recording to be able playing unfinished file. But because it is file, it will not be most probably this case.
More common is opposite, that you have 1h:30m long movie and it load just part of video, from zero to somewhere but not full. You can see it in timeline.
Also you can post text version of mediainfo for this file. It get detailed information about file, codecs, fps and much more.

You can also try to remux it again in mkvtoolnix and see if there is any difference. But mediainfo tells you duration as well, so problem can be file itself or player you are using.

Too late videobruger was much much faster or I read the post wrong...
