I have all my HD-DVD's rip to an External Hard Drive. Is there a program that can read the rips and convert them to an MKV or something so I could turn them into BluRay Type Discs? And if there any software that will still recognize and play them? Thanks!

I found a thread at MakeMKV's user forum which said that version 1.9.9 can process at least some HD-DVDs. A copy can be obtained from http://makemkv.com/download/old To activate it, enter the latest beta product key from https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053

If you have all of them ripped to the hard drive, you can use tsMuxeR to go to Blu-ray format, with no loss of quality. No menus however. MKVToolnix should be able to take the main movie and put it into an MKV file if you prefer that format.

AVCHD will only read on a Blu-Ray player. When you render, you choose what quality you want, SD DVD or AVCHD or Blu-Ray. Creating a larger storage space will make no difference to the quality.

Your best compromise (and possibly first step) is to buy a Blu-Ray player. (My Panasonic has a SD card slot as well as the DVD tray, I now download on to SD card with my AVCHD files.). Then burn your DVD in AVCHD format. (as you have done) This is the next stage to improve quality. Finally a Blu-Ray burner to create the best DVDs from HD video.Last edited by Jhonitto05; 30th Sep 2018 at 13:29.
