    Downloaded codecs for vdub and it allows me to drag the files in, but it shows them as 0 frames in length, and doesn't display anything. I'm using 600fps clips, which shouldn't be a problem as far as I'm concerned, it just shows a blank gray canvas (uploaded image).

    I guess you mean filters. Not codecs.

    Just tested on a m4V file on my HDD and it loads fine but it could well depend on the actual codec in your file. If you have not downloaded this one, try the Quicktime filter. There one that explicitly includes M4V
