Are there any capture devices that can record 1080p60 video AND 5.1 channel audio? Preferably with H.264 hardware encoding on board. Would prefer an external solution but would consider a pci card if that is the only way to get there.

I have found a number of 1080p60 capture devices and Happauge has on that can capture 5.1 AC3 but it only handles 1080p30 video. Have I missed one that does both?

    Thanks

Only external card I've seen is from BlackMagic: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity/techspecs/W-INT-02

Happauge ditched 5.1 feature with the 1080p60. Not many places support 5.1 audio(Like youtube & Twitch, Which was there focus).

The onboard H.264 encoder (I assume your talking about the Elgato HD60 Pro). That is only used for local recording and with there own software. Without it it can't be used.

If you have an open slot I would go with pcie version over USB 3.0.

Here are the pcie versions (4K versions can go up to 7.1 audio).

Thanks for the information. Looks like I would need to build a dedicated rig to do this that could use and support one of those pcie cards. Right now doing it with an external device stand alone from Avermedia but no 5.1 audio. Perhaps when I move up to 4k this would make sense to accomplish then. Between a new pc, the card etc, looking at well over a grand for the next step so that will wait a while. Really appreciate you thought out response.

You would only need to build a custom rig if your plan on doing fully uncompressed video. Which also requires Raid-0 with SSD drives (atlease 6 TB). You can record in lossy without much trouble. My i7 2600 can do 1080p60 without any issues. That CPU is pretty old now.

You don't need a 18 Core CPU to pull this off. It's harddrives that play the biggest role in all of this. Extra CPU power and Ram does help, like I said my old CPU can handle it without any issues.
