I doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes, like today, it will not get the audio of the first segment ( I have it in 4 min batches). Even if I repeat it and restart the pc it skips the 1st 4 min. I've been able to go back with other software like Vegas and get it but a bit of a hassle. Any clues on why it's doing this? Thanks

Just to clarify, where does the 4 min batches come from ?

Are you merely recording like this or setting WinDV to start a new file every 4 mins. The second seems rather short unless you have a 2 gb restriction from your HDD/OS. But even then the maths does not add up with DV being 13 gb per hour (4 min < 1 gb)

You might wish to swap WinDV from Type-1 audio to Type-2 or vice-versa to see if this makes a difference. Otherwise there may be a fault with either the camera or tape.

They come from a minidv camcorder via firewire. It's weird. It just did it again. I make it 4gb because I'm archiving many tapes and this lets me later throw away useless stuff without having to decide on it now. It's on type 2 AVI. I'll try switching. Strange that it doesn't always do this, just sometimes.
Just tried switching to type 1 Avi. It captured the 1st 4 segment! Will keep posted if it changes back. Thanks

  4. What software are using to capture from the miniDV camcroder? Audio sync problems used to be common with several capture apps, including WinDV. Try Scenalyzer (SCLive) instead. It is now free. Try the same capture and I'll be it will come out OK.

Thanks. It's behaving now. I guess switching AVI modes, as suggested above, did the trick.
