  1. I am new to capturing video but wanted to make some VCD's. But everytime I try and do this I get annoying lines on the capture window. Apparantly this is to do with the TV card and shared IRQ's, but my TV card has its own IRQ and I have disabled ACPI. My system is as follows...

    AMD Athlon 1Ghz
    256MB of RAM
    VooDoo 3 3000
    7200RPM Western Digital 20GB drive (ATA 100)
Galaxy TV card (think it uses the Brooktree 878 or something chipset)
    FIC AZ11EA Via Chipset motherboard

Any ideashow to correct this problem????

  2. When you say the lines appear in the "capture window", does that mean they appear during playback or just during capture?

Have you tried turning of both overlay and preview? You won't be able to see the picture while you're capturing it, but this will reduce the traffic on the PCI bus. Similarly, test the effect of capturing without sound. The sound card is sometimes the culprit, especially among SB Live users.

  3. What are you using for capture software? Have you tried Virtual Dub with your capture card?

  4. Thanx for the reply. The lines are during capture and the soundcard is just the onboard Via Sound. The capture software was Virtual Dub and the Huffy Codec.

Can you supply more details. How are you capturing through an antenna, video inputs, from your vcr? Is your signal NTSC PAL SECAM? Are you capturing from your video channel? Could there be something generating interference?

  7. I have tried capturing through my video inputs (which are all PAL) and Antenna from my VCR and straight off the TV, no luck. I know its not some sort of interferance, its more some sort of bandwidth problem

Have you tried shuffling the slot order around and removing your voodoo card? PCI slot 1 is shared with the AGP gfx card. You have enough bandwidth your running 1Ghz processor with a 133Mhz bus. Have you tried the card in another computer to see if its faulty. if its a bandwidth problem you'll be loosing fames not destroying picture. Also the source you are capturing from is there no macrovision in it.

I won't be surprised if your problem goes once you remove your voodoo card. Can you borrow a replacement card of a different make. There is a report that the brooktree chip depending on software used i.e. drivers can use video overlay. Some manufactures cards incorrectly report they can do this but can't or are not fully compatible. Have you tried generic drivers for your card?

Voodoo (3dfx) went belly up more than 6 months ago. I seriously suggest you get a replacement i.e. matrox or ati hardly any games use glide any more preferring DirectX or OpenGL.
