M1dnight, I personaly don't use VirtualDub or TMPEGen primarily because this site's forums are simply riddled with nothing but problems with both of these software products.
What's worse in my opinion are the absolute convoluted fixes that are proposed by the respondents on how to correct the issue at hand.
I would highly recommend the purchase of REAL video editing software such as Ulead's VideoStudio 6.0, www.ulead.com
I'm sorry my post doesn't help your problem but it is so obvious to me that the above mentioned software is just not ready for prime time and I don't give a damn how excellent they are supposed to be once you finally get them to work.
Your topic starts by saying.... "will it ever end"
Yes, it will end when you stop using problematic software.
I can't wait to read the backflips you are suppose to do to fix this problem that should not exit in the first place.

M1dnight, I assume you had the timing option set to sync the video to the audio, and that you are capturing in normal (not compatibility) mode, and that you are not getting an exessive number of dropped frames.
All that being the case, I have no idea why you should have problems. Despite what Spicuzza says (which may well be true), I have experienced no such problems in virtualdub (except once, when I had deleted some sections in the middle of the avi).
I would like to add that I gave up on Videostudio 4 because I always got synch problems after editing. It's good to hear that they have fixed the bugs now!
For all that, 1-2 seconds is a hugh delay. Is that right from the start, or is this one of those progressing de-sync things (if so, over how long)?
Also, the latest version of Vdub has a function to check that avi for errors, you may want to try that and see if it is getting corrupted in some way...that index incorrect stuff doesn't sound too good. -
Hi,
thanks for the reply.... il try to give some additional info
i describe two things
the problem im having is sync trouble....
i capture using vdub, doin everything that the guide on this site describes.
im using the hauppage win-tv pci-fm card.
the capture goes well... i drop 0 frames.
but when i play the avi the audio is out of sync like hell.... its been 2 secs but ive also seen like 3 secs or even 5 etc. and it starts immediatly..it isnt those cases of slowly itl get out of sync ive read about in these forums. it will immediatly be out of sync.
this is my problem
, notice this is not about video editing but capturing.
so dont get this mixed up with the corrupt thing that i posted about and going to describe now
.... i found on this page a way to possible remove the sync problem from the captured avi by doin what i described in my post....however the avi remains out of sync , and gives me an index incorrrect corrupted blah error when leaping ahead. so im jsut stating ive also tried the slution posted on the site.
now back to the problem..... im capturing in 355x288 with overlay enabled in vdub
also with overlay off and selecting the previeuw mode.
im not capturing in compatibility mode
however i will check out if i did this '' I assume you had the timing option set to sync the video to the audio'' but i think this would be in the guide so i expect im doin this also
also tried higher resolutions etc... but the audio keeps being out of sync.
i really need some help here.....
If anybody has any ideas anything
please,
like always thanks in advance

In the capture-window of VDub, there is somewhere a setting you must set that says that audio should always be syncd with video (this can cause 1 or more dropped frames, but they're not noticeble by human eye).
Also be sure there are no IRQ and DMA conflicts. Check the manual of your motherboard for how the mobo organises the irq's and dma's.
If necessary you should reorganise your pci-cards. E.g. your audio card shouldn't share an irq with your capturecard and any diskcontroller, also the capturecard shouldn't share an irq with any device at all (except maybe the vga-card, but I don't recomend this).
If you're using W98, wME or w2k ore wXP, you shouldn't rely on what they're saying. They share the IRQ's always but how the IRQ's are set at BIOS-level is what matters!
I also have an Athlon, using an Abit mainboard with VIA chipset (possible yours is too VIA), I had to reorganise and reinstall many times before I found the best possible configuration for my system to capture long video-clips (about 2hours per capture) without dropped frames, with audio sync'd (always) and still using the best quality. -
Virtualdub is a grat program for editing (cropping the beginning and the end) or adding subtitles, etc. but don't use it for capture.

M1dnight, this thread has the answer!
Perfect Audio Sync using Vdub
http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=89878
I firmly stand behind my previous post without admittedly ever using either software at issue.
Like I said, I can't wait to read the backflips you are suppose to do to fix this problem that should not exist in the first place.

Use a modified version of VirtualDub for capturing: VDub_synch http://www-user.rhrk.uni-kl.de/~dittrich/sync/

WELL......somewhow after some extensive...man do i mean extensive tuning of my system[ i tried litterally everything i could think up] ive somehow managed to get it working....dont ask me how i did it cuz honestly i aint got a clue. so thats a big wuhoo
now heres the funny part.... there was actually yet another damn problem it was sorta hiding so i hadnt noticed this before with the sound being out of sync thats all i looked at...now ive come to notice that the damn audio sorta goes mute somewhere durin capture..... il yet again make a topic about this new problem or old even....
i do wanna thank everybody for replying cuz somehow i did it and
i really appreciate it!! -
Glad your having some success M1dnight....good lick with the rest!
RoopeT: I tried that 'fixed' version of Vdub. Amazing...NO dropped frames, no creeping offset etc. I was quite impressed, BUT after I captured for a few minutes, and then checked the 'video/frame rate' options in the editing part, it showed the effective frame rate as 24.xxx fps (instead of 25) in the 'change so video and audio durations match' option. To me this indicated that it is still not doing the right thing. But I will look into it further.
Also, I remember reading in Avery Lee's site that he didn't think it was a good idea to modify the audio, because it would be more noticeable than repeating an occasional video frame. Have you noticed any effects from the audio correction?
