how did someone put 23 hours of video on one Blu-Ray disc?

Hello everyone! I am using cyberlink powerdirector15. Its great for my video edits but when I try to create discs it balloons my project file size to outrageous numbers. Currently I am trying to import mp4 at an average bitrate of just 1000 each for a total of 9GB but when I import to create disc, it goes to over 68GB!!!! I am attaching a screenshot of 2 blu-ray discs I have that someone else made and want to achieve a similar result. The top row is on a 50GB disc, has 71 m2ts files (id rather use ISO VOB to be playable on more devices?) that total 43GB with 23 hours of material at an average bitrate of 4300. The bottom row is on a 25GB disc, 35 m2ts files for 21.4GB with nearly 12 hours of material at an average bitrate of also 4300. What am I doing wrong? Should I convert my files to something else? And/Or is powerdirector unable to do something like this?

They just kept the bitrate low

yes but their bitrate is 4300 while mine is only 1000 so it doesnt add up. My total running time is about 21 hours at a 1000 bitrate. They have 23 hours at a 4300 bitrate. Perhaps its a powerdirector issue.... any other opinions please?

I havent rendered this particular project (see my reply to dave), but for other edits I use constant and keep everything else the same as the original (bitrate, etc).

Thank you for taking the time to help Dave... For this project I havent rendered it. I just import original files, create chapters and thumbnails for each, then go straight to "create disc"... for other files that I have rendered, I always keep the same specs as the original file (bitrate, etc) and at a constant CBR (is variable better?). In the render screen however, there is no m2ts option (view attachment). Should I convert the files to something else in a different program (tsMuxeR?) then import that? And would a VOB file be compatible with more blu ray devices over a m2ts file? It seems that PD isnt able to compute the high running time?

That image doesn't show anything useful. Do you get more details using those buttons to the right
of profile/name quality

@BabyDaddy If you need to put your 21 hours of video on one Blu-ray disc, you probably need to copy it as files and folders, then burn it as data, not as authored Blu-ray. Some Blu-ray players may be able to play such a disc, as long as the video does not use encoding options that typically cause problems for hardware players (things like variable frame rate, Qpel, and Level 4.2).

At that duration, it's almost a requirement that it be sd material, as hd would have way too many artifacts.
However, I don't think that's an issue here, as it sounds like all their stuff is already sd.

I don't think it would be too much of an encoding/playback stretch, as it is basically gonna be a mega-dvd. ~4.3Mbps for sd material using mpg2 codec is not great quality but workable, and common.

Its ALMOST the same..but in that one I mention if I need to "convert files" and if so, to what But I finally believe I have narrowed down the problem. Thanks to all of you who have replied. It did help me.
