.idx + .sub ? If so, they are images. You have to rebuild them using the appropriate tool such as SubtitleEdit, Subtitle Creator...

Maybe getting SRT text based version or converting them using OCD .

VOB subtitles are better in the long run, SRT is dull text lol
Image based subs will always be better.
#1 PGS
#2 VOB
In other words, leave them untouched. -
keep the original vob subs my friend
srt is the lower end subtitles -
vob subs suck. They scale poorly, you can't control the font, colors, transparency, drop shadows, etc.

Short answer not easily. You can extract them and resize with bdsub2sup (does more than bd subs). Useful for upscaling subs with upscaling video. for fine adjustments you have to ocr them then remake them as said before
Option 3 would be check your player for size adjusting.if all else fails read the manual -
I agree. I always convert the ones that came on the DVD to subs to my own liking.
To answer the question, though, the IDX file of VobSubs can be edited so that they appear larger or smaller when viewed with the video. But not by using MKVToolnix, but by editing the IDX file of the VobSubs. Open the IDX in Notepad. Originally (for NTSC subs) they say this near the top:
# Original frame size
size: 720x480
# Origin, relative to the upper-left corner, can be overloaded by aligment
org: 0, 0
To make them smaller you can change that part so it reads:
# Original frame size
size: 1080x720
# Origin, relative to the upper-left corner, can be overloaded by aligment
org: 200, 220
The pictures below show the result, with the original size on the left and the reduced size on the right. Maybe not all players will recognize the changes but, as I said, I don't use the original VobSubs anyway.
