    If I copy all the .vob files to my hd is'nt that the same thing as to rip them for example with "Smartripper" ?

    no...try watching them....if you just copied the vobs through windows explorer, you will not have stripped the encryption, which means parts of the movie will be blocked out (you need to be able to get rid of DeCSS protection in order to encode it to (S)VCD)
