Having a hard time wrapping my head around this one... same DVD, both NTSC and PAL sources, available. Here are sample clips of the same footage from each:
NTSC (sample): https://www.sendspace.com/file/lsv4zk
PAL (sample): https://www.sendspace.com/file/vrzn5a
Both appear to be simply deinterlaced. When I bob them, the NTSC comes out to a very smooth, 59.94 fps progressive result, and the PAL comes out to a very smooth 50.0 fps progressive result.
What is the likely scenario here? That the original source was 30 fps video, and when converted to PAL they simply dropped frames?
I'm having a hard time making a decision on which source to use (PAL is larger, of course [a plus]), and which settings to use.
I'm using MeGUI + AVISynth.
My first run, I used the PAL source, and ran QTGMC(), Srestore() and got a very nice looking 23.976 fps result. However, I don't think that this necessarily stems from a 24fps film source based on the bob findings of both the NTSC and PAL DVDs.
Thanks in advance~

Perhaps, similar enough, this is a secondary clip, which I have in PAL, only.
Sample (clip): https://www.sendspace.com/file/z36p33
It appears to be the same 25 fps interlaced as the PAL source above. When I bob it, I get a very smooth 50.0 fps progressive source...
...looking for best recommended settings with MeGUI + AVISynth.
If these truly are straight-up interlaced videos, I believe I know well the option to use deinterlacer of choice (i.e. QTGMC), which typically I would follow with Selecteven() to maintain framerate. However, when I simply bob these videos, they look really quite nice in their double-framerate playback. Is this a common preferred transcoding method (to simply bob interlaced material), and then play the doubled framerate trancodes back on NAS devices, etc? -
The NTSC video was made from the PAL source. It is lower resolution and has blending artifacts. The PAL source is better. Start with the PAL source and QTGMC().

It will get flickery and jerky if you decimate to 25 fps. I wouldn't do it unless you have playback restrictions.
