Something reasonable that will play MP4 and MPEG2 movies from a flash drive or usb hard drive.

I've read a lot of specs, but there's always format problems from the comments.

Get a current model Blu-ray player from LG, Samsung or Sony if you want to play media files as well as DVDs.

If they play video files from USB at all (many do not), DVD players will almost certainly be limited to standard definition DivX/XVid video in an AVI file. It is very unlikely that you'll find a DVD player even today that plays mp4 files or mpg files.
