Canopus ADVcC 100 Capture Failure

I bought a used Canopus ADVC 100 to convert my old Hi8 tapes to DVD. The video I have captured has been complete garbage of horizontal tears. I have the ADVC 100 connected via 6 pin firewire to a windows 10 pc with a PCIe firewire card and an I7 processor. I had the same results with both WinDV and DVIO. Dip switches are all set to off except #2. I have playing the tapes with the Sharp VL-HL100U they were recorded on. The video is fin on the camcorder LCD. How do I determine if the problem is the used ADVC 100, or the camcorder.

What chipset is used on the firewire card? Is it made by Texas Instruments (TI)? Those are the most reliable for DV. They cost more too.

It is TI chipset on card. It is capturing, just not usable.

Try capturing a high quality video source -- like a DVD player playing a non-encrypted DVD.

WinDV has a 'preview' window as it captures. Is this what you refer to or the actual cap on playback?

Maybe a bad connector on either the card(check that the card is installed correctly in the PC. Drivers ?) or the camera or even a faulty cable.
