  1. Win 98 SE does not want to copy files > 2G and <4G. Does anyone know of a patch or a copy utility that will work short of a new OS?

  2. Right click your hard drive, and select properties. Look at the file system. If it is FAT, than upgrade it to FAT32. Windows98 comes with a program that will do that for you in accessories/system.

  3. I already have a fat32 file system. Windows Explorer posts an error when I try to copy. I can look at the error message at this time.

The problem isn't with your configurations but with windows itself. You need to upgrade to an NTFS file system....WIN XP or 2000....they can support files over 4gigs. I know because I have a mpg2 encoder card and ran into that problem with win98 so I used partition magic to resize my partition on C:\ by half and then create an additional one thus ending up with C:\ and D:\ so install win 2000 and do the duel boot option. Choose the new partition D:\ to install it to. Thats the only way....you would not even be able to crate smaller files and then join them up....cause as soon as you hit 4 gig file size the application crashes. The 4 gig file size is only set for 1 file being that large. Upgrade to XP or WIn2000 both must be installed with a NTFS file system....and remember if you run the duel boot WIn98 will not see the files on D:\ because it can not see NTFS files stucture but a NTFS can see the fat 16 or 32 files....so win2000 or XP will see your 98 stuff. Hope this helps. I now it did when I ran in to that problem.

I get the same message copying files larger than 2gig (not 4gig) in win98. The error message is "can not copy or replace, the parameter is incorrect". I think it's a problem in win98 and windows explorer. Open a ms-dos window or boot to dos mode and then you can copy.
