    Hello,

I have recently acquired a DCR-TRV340 for transferring some of my old HI8 tapes and using it as a passthrough from my VCR. There appears to be a problem when I insert the DV cable (firewire) as it is recognized, however flashes reconnecting continuously (see the video below). In this state, it is not recognized by the computer and data cannot be transferred. I also have a TRV230 and it will connect and not flash using the exact same equipment (cables, power source, etc) so I am 99% sure the issue is within the camera and not any of the peripherals.

Any help or recommendation would be much appreciated. I'm pretty electrical savvy, so I don't mind cracking it open to check a connector or capacitor (as I don't have much to loose).

    Thanks!

Bad connector? Try blowing out the FireWire port with compressed air and giving it a squirt of DeoxIT. If you're game to open up the chassis, have a look at the connector solder points and traces. What's your OS? The driver may not be getting along with your camera. I know there are some Microsoft issues.
